Firat Aytun tells you in the following interview, how he experienced his internship at Apleona HSG and what his personal highlight was. 

What important tasks are we keeping you from right now? Where are you at the moment?
I am currently in Dublin and I am spending a winter semester abroad. Here, on the one hand, I can improve my English and on the other hand have an exciting experience abroad. The courses I attend here are mostly in the area of project management, because I would like to join Apleona HSG as a project manager later on.

What were the main projects you worked on during your internship?
I have mainly worked on projects in the areas of cleaning and hygiene management as well as technical facility management. The main focus was on contract optimisation.

What was your personal highlight during the internship?
I was allowed to be present at customer meetings and conferences very often. I also had the opportunity to work independently and take on responsibility. The trust placed in me by my supervisor, Christoph Widmer (Head of Mandate Syntegon Packaging System AG), was therefore my personal highlight. 

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about working as a team at Apleona HSG?
The family-like atmosphere and respectful interaction. When I needed help, the team was there to support me.

How did you develop during your internship? Who or what helped you do that?
During my internship, I not only gained valuable practical experience, but also developed as a person. On the one hand, I was able to use my theoretical knowledge from university on a daily basis at work and, on the other hand, I experienced how important teamwork is. At this point I would also like to thank my supervisor, who has always supported me in my tasks and the bachelor thesis! 

Would you recommend an internship at Apleona HSG to other students? Why?
Definitely! At Apleona HSG there are many different departments with exciting tasks. Apleona HSG thus offers a wide range of fields of activity in facility management for students from various study programmes. In addition, the helpfulness in the team and the learning effect is great.

You have successfully completed your bachelor thesis. Congratulations! What was it like for you to write your bachelor thesis during your internship at Apleona HSG?
Thank you very much! Writing the bachelor thesis in the company was a good experience. Not only was I able to improve my practical skills, but I also had the opportunity to deepen my theoretical knowledge. Due to the operational procedures, I knew exactly how I had to structure my bachelor thesis. This made things a lot easier for me.  

Why did you decide to study facility management for a Bachelor's degree?
Already during my days at school I was very interested in real estate and so I soon knew that the real estate industry should become my professional home. The various disciplines of facility management then convinced me to decide for this study programme. This was the best decision I could have made for myself. 

Which aspects of facility management fascinate you the most?
The good thing about this industry is that it is extremely diverse and covers many exciting aspects of building use and property management. Facility management includes many different areas of responsibility in which you can work. If you want to change career direction, the possibilities within facility management are very diverse.

What are you doing next and what are your career goals?
I am currently enjoying my stay abroad and am working on gaining a foothold in the field of project management.
