The Apleona Group acquired a stake in Irish firm Eastway on 2 October 2023. Eastway specialises in data-driven advance maintenance and AI-assisted monitoring for technical facilities in buildings. The aim is to increase facilities’ availability by avoiding unplanned downtime and emergency repairs. This is enabled by IoT (Internet of Things) sensors attached to the technical facilities in question. The sensors continuously send machine status data to the system, where it is analysed and evaluated.
The first joint pilot project conducted by Eastway and Apleona Switzerland in the DACH region is currently under way with a key client in the Basel region. The site’s central ventilation system has been equipped with a total of 12 vibration sensors: three sensors on each of the 280kW motors of the supply and exhaust air systems. If set limits are exceeded or anomalies occur, an alert is triggered automatically and sent to our technical team on site. Critical alerts are also assessed by an external expert team from Eastway and recommendations for action are addressed to the technical managers.
Thomas Eigner, Technical Project Manager at Apleona Switzerland, headed up the project in Basel with assistance from Julian Piorek, Digital Solutions Manager at Apleona Group. Mr Piorek launched and coordinated the partnership with Eastway.
«Our customers expect new and innovative solutions in building operations from us. Projects like this one with Eastway are crucial in ensuring we meet our customers as a skilled and experienced partner and take their needs seriously,» says Mr Eigner.
Laura Rangognini, Head of Digital Solutions & Transformation, is delighted: «I think it’s wonderful we were able to get this pilot project up and running in Switzerland. The project team will now be able to learn from the pilot in the next phase and draw on these learnings for other projects.»
Mr Piorek is also impressed by the project: «The successful projects in Switzerland give me a great deal of confidence in our collaboration with Eastway going forward, including in other regions. In this way, we are well-equipped for upcoming advance maintenance tasks.»
